Our San Diego Real Estate Attorneys have brought you information about Loan Modification scams in the past. Our San Diego Real Estate Attorneys have also discussed how loan modifications may be leading to foreclosures. Here is a perfect example of why we discussed those topics.
According to 10news.com, San Marcos based Glenn Steven Rosofsky has plead guilty to conspiracy, money laundering and tax charges.
It seems that Rosofsky and his partner Michael Trap represented themselves as “Nations Housing Modification Center” and “Federal Housing Modification Department” and claimed that they had attorneys and forensic accountants on staff to work with lenders on the loan modifications. Of course, they did not have any San Diego Attorneys on staff. Of course, they did not have any forensic accountants on staff.
This was a scam through and through. These guys obviously had no plans to help a single person. The only plan was to take as much money as possible from people in an unfortunate position. To get as many people as they could, they falsely represented that they had offices in Washington D.C. and sent mailers to home owners behind on their payments all over the country. In all around 300 homeowners paid over $900,000.00 to these scam artists.
Worse than the money they took from these home owners is the result on the homeowners. How many lost their home because they thought a loan modification was being done for them? How many were forced into bankruptcy after losing their home or to save their home?
This is why we implore you, please beware of loan modification companies. I am not saying there are not good ones out there but do your due diligence before trusting your home and your hard earned money to anyone.
